Following the official launch of the National Sanitation Day by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, on 6th September 2025 at the Institute of Local Government Studies, the Ho West District Assembly observed its own Sanitation Day activities on Saturday, 4th October 2025.
The exercise took place simultaneously in the communities of Tsito and Akome. It witnessed active participation from community members, traditional leaders, Assembly Members, staff of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Environmental Health and Sanitation Officers, and other staff of the Assembly.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Profer Francis Dusey, commended residents for their commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment. He further urged them to sustain the momentum beyond the National Sanitation Day by observing regular clean-up exercises in line with the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” directive. He emphasized that every first Saturday of the month has been designated as National Sanitation Day and called on all residents to actively participate in subsequent exercises to promote environmental cleanliness, enhance waste management and prevent disease outbreaks.
Activities undertaken during the exercise included the desilting of choked gutters, clearing and weeding of overgrown areas, pruning of trees and bushes, sweeping of streets, markets, and other public spaces, as well as the collection and disposal of refuse at designated dumping sites.
The clean-up exercise ended successfully, leaving the environment visibly cleaner and creating renewed awareness among residents about the importance of community participation and shared responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
